Volkswagen Up! Comes to Europe, Possibly U.S.

In the United States, the Volkswagen Golf and Volkswagen Eos are this German auto maker's version of small cars. But over in Europe, an even smaller (thus more fuel efficient) vehicle is coming to dealership lots.

The Volkswagen Up! Concept (Yes, it's actually properly spelled "up!" by the company) has been built into a production ready model. "This new concept city car will make its debut first in Germany next year. It will be an entry level vehicle for the foreign auto maker."1

Powering this economy class VW is your choice of various 1.0 liter gas engines producing 60 bhp and 75 bhp, respectively.

The vehicles mentioned above, available for a test drive at Lokey Volkswagen - 27850 U.S. Hwy 19 N in Clearwater, FL 33761, produce greater horsepower with engines only slightly larger. They are also rated around 22-24 mpg city, 30+ highway.

Volkswagen plans on also offering a CNG (compressed natural-gas unit), offering 68 bhp. An optional "smart system" in Up! works at speeds under 18 mph. It detects impending collisions and can apply the brakes automatically. Up! will come in three trim levels - trend, comfort and high. Let's hope this little car makes it to the U.S.
