Volkswagen Knows You Can't Resist the Lure of the Bark Side

Last year, Volkswagen unveiled a successful commercial at the Super Bowl simply called, "The Force." The comedic ad featured a kid dressed as Darth Vader, from Star Wars, who brings his dad's 2012 Volkswagen Passat to life using only the will of the force... Of course, it actually turns out that it's his dad inside playing with the vehicle's remote starter. The ad earned nearly 45-million hits on Youtube, and it's since gone on to place fourth on Thebleacherreport.com's list of the "50 All-Time Best Super Bowl Car Commercials."

That said, the ante has certainly been upped for the German automaker going into this year's big game. The company has already announced that they've purchase a 30-second ad spot for a hefty sum of $3.5-million. Now the only question that remains is what exactly will the ad be about?

To help answer this, or perhaps to incite further confusion, Volkswagen has released a video teaser for their new ad. Simply called "The Bark Side," it features a group of dogs that bark and howl to the tune of the "Imperial March" - one of the most famous songs in the Star Wars series. The video has already experienced a huge amount of success too, garnering roughly 5-million hits within a week of release.

Does this mean that the new Volkswagen ad will be Star Wars-based again? Not entirely. Many are seeing the teaser as more of a follow-up to the success of "The Force" rather than a true indicator of their next ad's content.

Of course, if you're already sold on a new Volkswagen, then feel free to contact Lokey Volkswagen online or by phone at 727-799-2151 to arrange a test drive.
